Tan Lines Distilling
Packaging Design

Townsville based Tan Lines Distilling engaged Birdstone to provide complete packaging solutions for their new range of spirits. Founder of Tan Lines Distilling, Aaron Rieniets, sought packaging which was bar-friendly, easy to use and differentiated by humour, while setting the challenge of creating a second use for the product label.

Birdstone specified a tall, sleek bottle which not only stood out on shelf, but was comfortable to hold and pour in the heat of bar-service. The label design strategy centres around the Australian summer, with a humorous nod to a series of unfortunate tan lines. Using a limited colour pallet and a tightly cropped composition, the abstract design requires clever thought and interpretation.

From day one the Birdstone team understood the unique design challenges involved. Their wealth of knowledge and experience helped to refine the branding and bring to reality a truely unique product.

Showcasing a different character's tan line on each bottle within the range, Birdstone created a set of collectable designs, with labels that could be peeled off and reapplied as stickers. Working directly with the supplier we were able to source a suitable material and create a solution that met this technical challenge.
